The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has entered into nine Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with authorized trade partners to enhance Saudi Arabia’s appeal as a prime destination for both leisure and business tourism in Pakistan.

The STA highlighted the growing interest from the Pakistani market, noting a 43% increase in tourist arrivals to Saudi Arabia in 2023 compared to the previous year. This year, STA aims to welcome 2.7 million visitors from Pakistan, offering a wide range of destinations, culinary experiences, and cultural attractions.

The MoUs were signed during a trade event in Lahore, featuring prominent media personalities, trade partners, celebrities, corporate leaders, airlines, and influencers. The event aimed to showcase Saudi Arabia as a top destination for leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, emphasizing its diverse tourist attractions and recent recognition of its eighth UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Key highlights included:

Jeddah – Historic District:
Known as the gateway to Makkah, Jeddah is celebrated for its vibrant cultural scene and the stunning Red Sea coastline. Its historic Al-Balad district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features ancient souks and traditional architecture, offering a blend of culture and leisure, including family-friendly seaside activities.

AlUla – World’s Greatest Place:
Famous for its awe-inspiring rock formations and historical significance, AlUla offers a unique combination of adventure and cultural exploration. Highlights include the ancient city of Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and activities like hot air ballooning and stargazing. AlUla’s attractions have earned it recognition in Time Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places Awards 2024.

Taif – City of Roses:
Known for its cool highlands and rich cultural festivals, Taif is a year-round destination famous for its rose production. The city offers picturesque hiking trails and is celebrated for its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Increased Connectivity:
Traveling to Saudi Arabia has become more convenient with relaxed tourist visa requirements. Applicants can now submit a bank statement with a lower minimum monthly credit amount. Pakistani travelers can visit Tasheer offices across Pakistan for visa processing and take advantage of the new transit visa, allowing up to 96 hours of exploration. Visa on arrival is also available for travelers with valid UK, US, and Schengen visas.

These initiatives and improved connectivity are designed to attract more Pakistani tourists to Saudi Arabia, offering a diverse array of experiences, from the cultural richness of Jeddah and the Red Sea to the ancient wonders of AlUla.
