Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), a prominent oil and gas exploration company, has announced the start of hydrocarbon production from its newly developed Adhi South-8 well in the Pothwar region of Punjab.
In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday, the company, a major natural gas supplier in Pakistan, shared this significant development.
“We are delighted to announce that as part of our ongoing efforts to boost oil and gas production, the Adhi South-8 well in the Adhi Mining Lease has begun production,” PPL stated in its notice.
PPL operates the Adhi Mining Lease with a 39% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Oil & Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) with a 50% interest, and Pakistan Oilfield Ltd (POL) holding an 11% interest.
According to the company’s notice to the PSX, the Adhi South-8 well was successfully drilled to a depth of 3,460 meters and completed as a producer based on promising log results.
“Following the tie-in of the well with the plant, production has commenced at a rate of 550 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 0.8 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas at a 36/64 inch choke,” PPL reported.
“This additional indigenous hydrocarbon production will help reduce the energy demand-supply gap and save significant foreign exchange for the country,” the company added.
Exploration at Adhi, situated about 70 km south of Islamabad in the Pothwar region, began in 1956 and continued for a decade during which four wells were drilled.
Adhi’s primary clients include SNGPL for gas, Attock Refinery Limited for LNG/crude oil, and various LPG marketing companies.
Earlier this month, PPL announced a gas discovery from the exploratory well Tor-1 in Latif Block, located in Khairpur District, Sindh.
Last year, PPL commenced hydrocarbon production from the Adhi South-6 well.
