Global shipping and logistics company Maersk West and Central Asia Limited (Maersk) has formed a strategic partnership with Pakistan’s Secure Logistics Group Limited (SLGL), appointing SLGL as its onshore logistics partner. The announcement was made by SLGL in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
This partnership reflects SLGL’s ongoing efforts to expand its logistics services portfolio. Additionally, Maersk and SLGL are in discussions for a similar arrangement under SLGL’s TIR License, aiming to extend logistics services to Maersk in regional markets and Central Asia. Domestic services are set to begin by the end of September 2024, with regional operations launching by late October or early November 2024.
Last month, SLGL secured the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) license, enabling it to offer international road transport services across several countries, including Afghanistan, Central Asian states, China, Iran, and Turkey.
It was also reported that Maersk plans to invest $2 billion in Pakistan’s port and transport infrastructure over the next two years. According to Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, this investment will enhance infrastructure and significantly contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth.
